January 29th: The Israeli satirist given birth to in Budapest as Ferenc Hoffmann, Ephraim Kishon (* August 23rd, 1924), dies at his place of residence in Switzerland. Kishon was regarded as one of the most important satirists of the 20th century.

February 2nd: The German Federal President Horst Köhler keeps a speech in German as a second Federal President ahead of the Knesset.

February 8th: At the first meeting Ariel Sharon - Mahmoud Abbas in Sharm El Sheik Israel and the Palestinians decide on a mutual non-aggression. Picture

November 11th: The 54-year-old trade-union leader Amir Peretz becomes a new leader of the Israeli Avoda. He announces the dissolving of the coalition with the Likud under Prime Minster Ariel Sharon.

November 21st: Ariel Sharon announces his resignation as Prime Minster and the leaving the Likud. In the same month he founds the new middle right party Kadima, which used her good chance at the following new elections. A week later, the former leader of the Avoda, Shimon Peres follows too.
